RF2024: ORGANIC MOVEMENT

Our project revolves around making inorganic objects look and feel organic through movement and aesthetic design. Our flower lamp will investigate the organic movement of flowers and implement it in our design.

A tulip opens and closes depending on the time of day or weather conditions; our design will incorporate a version of this phenomenon. The aesthetic design of our lamp will feature cut-out soda cans of different varieties to highlight society's consumption of wares. By upcycling these cans, we aim to raise awareness about the possibilities of using and recycling already manufactured items to create new things.

This project is an investigation of movement in objects that don't typically exhibit movement—specifically, a lamp. When designing lamps, can we incorporate more elements of nature into the design? Most things we create lack natural value and become inorganic, which is what we are exploring. Additionally, our design has a unique appearance, as the petals are made from cut-out soda cans. We retain the logos on the cans but will use various brands in the construction. This approach allows us to investigate people's perceptions of upcycled lamps and prompt them to reflect on their consumption habits.
