Repair your clothes with visible mending

Instead of tossing it away, why not learn the art of visible mending and transform it into a unique and personalized masterpiece? In this hands-on workshop, we'll delve into the world of clothes repairing, combining embroidery and visible mending techniques.

During the workshop, you'll discover the beauty of visible mending as a sustainable and creative approach to extending the lifespan of your cherished garments. We will guide you through various mending techniques, including patching, darning, and stitching, while also exploring the art of embroidery as a means of embellishment.

By the end of this workshop, you'll not only have the knowledge and skills to mend your clothes but also a newfound appreciation for visible mending as a form of creative expression.

Note: Participants are encouraged to bring their own garments in need of repair, as well as any specific embroidery supplies they may already have.

Personalized Fashion: Clothes Alteration

TUESDAY, OCT 3, 2023 AT 4 PM – 6 PM

Have you ever looked at your wardrobe and felt like your clothes could use a fresh update? Join our hands-on workshop on clothing alteration and learn how to transform your garments into unique pieces that fit you perfectly.

From simple adjustments to creative enhancements, we'll guide you through a range of techniques that will breathe new life into your wardrobe. You'll learn how to take measurements, modify hems, adjust waistlines, and tailor garments to your body shape. We'll cover essential sewing techniques using both hand sewing and the sewing machine, allowing you to make precise alterations.

But this workshop is not just about fit – it's also an opportunity to unleash your creativity. From adding embellishments and decorative trims to experimenting with fabric combinations, you'll learn how to infuse your own unique style into your altered clothing.

Note: Participants are encouraged to bring their own garments for alteration, as well as any sewing tools or materials they may have. Limited sewing machines and basic sewing supplies will be provided for practice purposes.

Pimp your t-shirt

Learn how to use our vinyl cutter and pimp your old t-shirt!

FabLab RUC invites you to an evening workshop on how to design, print and apply vinyl on clothes - a great opportunity to upcycle your forgotten tee!

In this hands-on workshop, we will guide you through the process of creating unique designs and transferring them onto fabric using our vinyl cutter and heat presser. Bring your own computer, a piece of clothing, and your friends for a fun and collaborative atmosphere.

Hat Knitting 101

TUESDAY, OCT 31, 2023 AT 4 PM – 6 PM

Have you always dreamt about knitting your own vest, a pair of socks or a warm hat but you don’t know where to begin?

This is your opportunity to finally learn how to knit. FabLab RUC is inviting everyone to a knit for beginners workshop on May 9 from 5PM-6PM. If you want to get going with your knitting project after the workshop you can stay and get help until 9PM.

You will learn basic knitting techniques to get a good start on your project. Imagine finally having a sweater with the perfect sleeve length. You will also learn how to find videos, knitting Instagram accounts, patterns, how to read a knitting recipe and websites to help you after the workshop.

If you have needles and yarn, bring it with you.

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced crocheter, this workshop welcomes all skill levels.

Note: Crochet hooks and some yarn will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own preferred tools and materials.
